An Jae-Hyun was born in Daejeon, South Korea, on December 25, 1999. He did not play any sport in his early life stages, and he only started playing table tennis when he was nine. His first appearance on the international scene was at the Korea Junior and Cadet Open Tournament when he was thirteen years old.

He got to the quarterfinal stage of the competition before he was defeated. Not long after, An Jae-Hyun participated in the Asian Youth Championship in 2013 and won the bronze medal. He also made his debut in South Korea in 2013. In 2014, An Jae-Hyun dominated the Korea Junior and Cadet Open tournament by winning in three categories.

In addition, he also had a complete victory at the Asia Youth Championship that took place in 2014 and 2016. A few years later, An Jae-Hyun won the silver medal during the Youth World Championship in 2017. He has continued to win numerous awards since then, even winning the gold medal at the 2021 Asian Team Championship.
