Lily Zhang is one of the few table tennis players who brought glory to the U.S. with various winnings. She has participated in the Olympics thrice and won a bronze medal at the World Table Tennis Championships in Houston in 2021. The bronze medal was the first of the few the U.S. ever got in 62 years. She played alongside the famous Lin Gaoyuan from China. Together, they were one of the two US-China teams that took part in the championships as a commemoration of Ping Pong's diplomacy 50th anniversary.

In 2022, Lily Zhang got to share an arena with top athletes worldwide, including Chen Meng and Sun YingSha from the Chinese National team. Zhang has always shown good skills, from the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) women's world cup and the Tokyo Olympics to other championships like the U.S. Open and North American Championships. Biography

Lily Ann Zhang was born on June 16, 1996, in Redwood City, California. Although she was born in the US, her parents are Chinese. Her father was a Stanford University mathematics professor, and they lived on campus. Lily played table tennis with her parents when she was young. Her mother played for Xi’an, her province in China. Her father's playmate, Dennis Davis, took her to the Palo Alto Table Tennis Club to practice.

Lily studied at Palo Alto High School and graduated in 2014, then joined the University of California, Berkeley. She took a break to prepare for the 2016 Olympics and played League in Austria. The talented player is sponsored by JOOLA table tennis.

Career

Lily Zhang’s ping pong career began when she was seven. She was trained by the president of the Palo Alto Table Tennis Club – Dennis Davis. He was also the North American representative of the ITTF Junior Commission. Zhang joined the U.S. cadet team at 11. She was the youngest member of the U.S. women's team at 12 and got a #2 ranking as a Junior Woman Table tennis player in the U.S. at 13.

Lily participated in the Junior Girls’ Event in the 2010 and 2011 U.S. National Championships and won the title. She came second in the Women's singles, but in 2012, she beat the defending champion Ariel Hsing and won the championship.
