Career

Togami already developed a passion for table tennis at a very early stage of his life. The Japanese sensation grew up in a family of table tennis players, and it was only natural that he picked the mantle. His father was a former Inter-high Men's doubles champion, winning the competition in 1982. He also has two older brothers that play professionally. At the age of 3, Togami started playing table tennis citing his two older brothers as a major influence.

In 2018, he started his professional career in the Japanese professional league, T-League, joining T.T Saitama. Togami played at T.T Saitama for a period of two years (2018-2020) before moving to Ryukyu Asteeda. He was also the recipient of two bronze medals at the Men's doubles and mixed doubles events at the WTT Star Contender, held in the same year.

Later he 2022, he signed a new contract with the German club, TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen.  In the same year, Togami continued his impressive run, winning the singles event as he defeated Kenta Matsuidara in the final 4-2. He repeated this feat with the same score by beating Tomokazu Harimoto to claim the 2023 edition of the All Japan Table Tennis Championships in the singles event.

It puts him in a strong position to cement his place with the Japanese national team before the upcoming World Championships in Durban. This would certainly increase his chances of playing at the 2024 Olympic games, with Togami previously admitting his desire to participate in the competition. And his rapid rise surely boosts his chances of competing alongside Harimoto in Durban and other international Championships.

Playing Style

Togami is an aggressive player and often approaches games offensively. He often relies on quick reflexes, speed, and powerful shots to overwhelm his opponents. Despite his aggressive approach, Togami also prioritizes control and precision, often using spin and placement to keep his opponents off balance. This technique, along with his incredible forehand and backhand movements, helped him land several wins against Tomokazu Harimoto in the All-Japanese Championships. His playing style is often compared to Chinese player Fan Zhendong due to his preference for attacking the ball close to the table.
