Career

In 1998 she looked to better her career, so she had to leave China and move to Spain. While there, she got invited to play for the Portuguese club Grupo Desportivo do Estreito. In 2001, the club signed her, and she decided to go ahead with the transfer and live in Portugal, where she met her husband, settled down, and received her Portuguese citizenship in 2013. She served her newly recognized country well and immediately began playing for their national team. The same year, she became the first player to win a medal in an international tournament at the European Championships held in Austria. She made it to the competition's semi-finals, but unfortunately, the Swede, Li Fen, knocked her out.

She went on to become an even more important player in the game, and in 2015 she was able to play in the European Games held in Baku, and it was the first time in her career. She was knocked out in the round of 32 and was left disappointed. But she got a chance to redeem herself in the European Championships, where she could win the bronze medal in the singles edition, but she lost in the semi-finals to the Dutch player Li Jie. The world noticed her efforts; that year, she was ranked 15th, still her highest ranking to date.

Over the years, she continued to play her game, and in 2019, she got the notice of TTC Berlin and played for them for a while before eventually leaving and joining SV DJK Kolbermoo in 2020.

Fu Yu kept playing and participated in the Euro Top 16 competition, where she reached the finals and won a silver medal in the singles edition. Then shortly after, she participated in the European Team Championship and won the bronze medal.

Fu Yu has had a remarkable career; at 44, she has done more than most table tennis players. Her career seems like a dream to other players.
